Wildfires and vegetation fires are becoming more frequent, intense, and unpredictable across Europe, posing major challenges for firefighters, incident commanders, and trainers, as their tactics differ significantly from traditional firefighting. The Erasmus+ project WILDFIRE is developing the first Europe-wide standardized training program – ranging from basic courses to specialized operational and leadership training, all the way to international cooperation. Modern, practice-oriented, and digitally supported, the program enhances the safety of emergency responders and the public, establishes clear qualifications, and promotes faster, more effective, and better-coordinated operations to protect people, nature, and infrastructure.
