WILDFIRE – European Training Standard for Wildfire Management

Wildfires are becoming increasingly frequent and dangerous across Europe. They place extraordinary demands on firefighters, incident commanders, and trainers – as the tactics differ significantly from traditional firefighting.

With WILDFIRE, an Erasmus+ project in the KA2 category (Strategic Partnerships, Cooperation, and Innovation Projects), a unified European training standard is being developed: multi-level, practice-oriented, and digitally supported. From basic courses to specialized operational and leadership training, and even international cooperation, all aspects are covered.

The goals

  • Maximum safety for emergency responders and the public
  • Unified training standards and clear qualifications across Europe
  • More effective, faster, and better-coordinated wildfire response

Only through joint learning, modern technology, and regular exercises can we meet the growing threats of wildfires and vegetation fires – and better protect people, nature, and infrastructure.

Transnational meetings

A key component of WILDFIRE are the transnational project meetings. Representatives of all partner organizations meet regularly to coordinate content, work on project tasks, and plan the next steps. These meetings not only promote professional exchange but also strengthen cross-border collaboration – an essential foundation for establishing a common European training standard in wildfire management.
